ABOUT ME.

Who am I?

Roel Estievenart | Intrigued by the why.

I’ve always been deeply interested in the ‘why’ behind everything. From an early age I wondered and ask many questions even regarding the simplest of things. Travelling and living abroad while growing up has fostered a deep curiosity in me about the world and universe we live in.

Ever since I was young, I was physically active and played all different kind of sports (judo, basketball, rock climbing, skate- & snowboarding, surfing, CrossFit, etc.) but it wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I began to dive deeper into the realms of yoga. I discovered a completely new world that went far beyond my imagination. Since then, I genuinely dedicated myself to the study of the yoga practice. I made the fulfilling practice an important part of my life. It became my desire to know the truth of our being and an exciting daily opportunity to initiate self-discovery.

With a background in nuclear engineering my mind was (and still is) conditioned in an analytic and rational way. After delving deeper into my practice of yoga, this conditioning evolved into a fascination of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence. I felt drawn to know more about (yogic) philosophy and in the process of doing so uncovered a mind-altering discovery: the parallels between Eastern philosophy and quantum mechanics. Astonished by these discoveries, I was absorbed and my passion and understanding of yoga but also physics grew more and more profound. Up until today it excites me immensely to pick up a book or have conversations around these topics.

Movement has always motivated me and gave me a visceral understanding of how much important it is to keep the body active. I generally gravitate towards practices that are rooted in science or have a logical reasoning behind it. On my path of self-discovery, I experimented and tested many yoga styles, and eventually stumbled upon the strong and invigorating practice of Dylan Werner which resonated with me deeply. In 2021 I was one of the lucky few that could learn and grow under his guidance in my first 200-hour yoga teach training and I didn’t stop learning ever since (and intend not to).

Yoga has helped me to create a space to deepen my inner connection to self. My intention to practice yoga asana is not to create the shape but to love through the body and connect deeper to the breath, the spirit, and our inherent connection to everything.

I always try to remind my students that it is not about mastering a pose, but the journey itself. Every time we step onto our mats, we practice out of a love for ourselves. With the desire to know the truth of our own being and with a longing to benefit all beings, in all times and spaces. By practicing consistently, we become more conscious, more aware of the experience itself. And through experience you’ll find truth because language is imperfect and limiting.

I’m passionate about spreading my love for yoga and helping others in their journey through creating mind-body connections by breathing and moving through space and shifting the state of mind. The practice encourages personal exploration, potentiality, and freedom of movement. Expect to build strength and flexibility, laugh and to embrace falling and wobbling out of postures. I intend to create a wonderful balance of structure and flow, meeting you where you are, in your moment of effort and ease (sthira and sukha). My aim is to encourage and inspire more people to experience the wonderful benefits of yoga and most importantly enjoy not taking yourself to seriously in the practice and I hope to leave you with a warm feeling and a vibrating loving energy.
